The HUUSD School Board met in-person (with an option for remote participation) last Wednesday, March 15th at Harwood Union Middle/High School.
The reorganization meeting, the first one after new members were elected on town meeting day, had the primary agenda item of electing a leadership team, officers, and designating newspapers of record.
Michael Leichliter opened the meeting and initiated the election of officers.
Annual Board Reorganization
To start with Mike asked all Board Members to introduce themselves.
Ashley Woods nominated Kristen Rodgers for Board Chair, and Kristen accepted the nomination. Several Board members spoke in support of Kristen and the work she has done throughout the past year. Marlena Tucker-Fishman nominated Life Legeros for Board Chair. He declined. Kristen was elected unanimously to serve until the HUUSD reorganizational meeting in March 2024 and immediately took over running the meeting.

A motion to designate a building administrator at each school to act as Truant Officer was approved without objection.
The Valley Reporter and The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus were designated as the newspapers of record.
Approve Agenda: The agenda was approved without objection.
Public Comment: Brian Dalla Mura offered comments regarding the District’s restraint and seclusion policy and the current legislation in the Vermont State Legislature regarding restraint and seclusion.
As always, the Board welcomes feedback from our community. One of the easiest ways to share your thoughts is to send an email to [email protected], which will go to every Board member. There is also time at every Board meeting for public comment. Alternately, reach out to one of your neighbors who is on the school board and share your thoughts in a personal email or phone call (see a list of Board members and contact information at https://tinyurl.com/523wtrnj).
The Board’s next meeting will be on Wednesday March 22rd at 6PM.
