As we continue to invest in technologies, devices, and applications to support HUUSD student's academic growth, we are simultaneously evaluating the district's current legal and ethical obligations to protect their personal identity information, educational records, and online footprints. HUUSD is committed to adhering to state and federal laws regarding student's electronic records and is a member of the Student Data Privacy Alliance Vermont chapter. FAMILY EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS AND PRIVACY ACT

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student records, defines what constitutes a student record, and identifies information that can be in the public domain. The U.S. Department of Education has an extensive FERPA FAQ that addresses many questions from the point of view of parents and educational entities.

CHILDREN'S ONLINE PRIVACY AND PROTECTION ACT

The Children's Online Privacy and Protection Act (COPPA) was created to put parents in control over what personal information is collected from their children while using the internet. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has put together a comprehensive COPPA FAQ, which we suggest that you peruse to learn more about this important legislation.

CHILDREN'S INTERNET PROTECTION ACT

The Children's Internet Privacy and Protection Act (CIPA) was created to address the need for schools to ensure that students were not accessing inappropriate content through the internet. It is administered through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

VERMONT AGENCY OF EDUCATION

The Vermont Agency of Education has a number of resources for families regarding all aspects of your student's education. The most relevant to this topic are the resources curated in response to COVID-19 called Continuity of Learning.
